Best Robot Mower Ambrogio, Advantage #7: Run Times

Ambrogio robot mowers have incredibly long run times, not bragging - nevermind, "yes, I am bragging". The run times are so much longer than competitors, they are highlighted on the Ambrogio robot lawn mower web site model page

Also unlike competitors, Ambrogio robots have the most extensive model range. The 2019 Ambrogio model range was discussed in my previous blog post. It will be interesting to see what Zucchetti does in 2020. One thing I can guarantee is that long run times will be part of the line-up.

In all seriousness, what are Ambrogio's run times? The table below highlights what you can reasonably expect to see:

Of course, as the battery ages, the run time decreases. This is the main reason the
Ambrogio manufacturer has 50% more run time than its closest competitor (when comparing models of similar capacity). Ambrogio includes larger or extra batteries and specifies the "out-of-the-box" run time substantially higher than competitors so the owner can be assured the robot will maintain the entire lawn for the complete battery life time. This approach extends battery lifetime to 8-10 years, which has been reported by many customers. Competitors, that have smaller-sized batteries, are more concerned with "out-of-the-box" run-time durations rather than ensuring large enough batteries are used to keep the lawn fully mowed for the life of the robot.

In addition, the Ambrogio long run-time philosophy enables a "drop and go" mowing approach for landscapers who prefer to drop robots off and pick them up later. This method of lawn service allows landscapers to work in a neighborhood performing various tasks, such as edging, trimming and leaf blowing, while having robots perform the mowing task. Landscapers can gain more customers without changing the size of their crews. The NEXT line is the only robot mower on the market that has the battery installed externally. This enables landscapers to have spare batteries on-hand to install and keep the robot running continuously, for more coverage.

Another reason long run times are better is that there are less frequent trips to the charging base. This improves the mowing efficiency since the robot is not wasting time traveling back to the base to charge. As discussed in my post on pet safety, it is also an advantageous strategy for keeping the robot away from pets. Since Ambrogio mows longer, it travels back to the base to charge less often per day. The yard is robot-free far longer than competitors. Competitors must shorten their charge times to allow extra time to travel back for charging.

Here is an illustration that shows the tradeoff between Ambrogio robots and other brands.

In addition, many Ambrogio robot models offer an "eco-mode" that sends the robot back early if it senses that the grass is fully mowed down. This further enhances robot life time by not only reducing wear and tear on its motors, but by also being less harsh on the battery. And, an eco-mode bonus is that there will be even more contiguous robot-free yard time.

In conclusion, Ambrogio robot mowers have a different battery management strategy that increases run-time and battery lifetime vs. competitors. Typically, Ambrogio batteries work over the entire life of the robot vs. requiring replacement early. Ambrogio's incredibly long run-times keep very large lawns mowed always. Ambrogio robots mow and charge in the most efficient way so that the amount of time the yard is robot-free is maximized.
